The famous Pigna district has been for centuries the ‘living breath’ of Corfiot day life and the heart of events in a town of four centuries.

It used to be the main marketplace of the town with many shops and a variety of trading goods. It was named after the Venetian word Pigna, which means pine cone. The pinecone at that time was thought to be a symbol of prosperity.
